What is Roulette?

The term "Roulette" refers to a popular form of gambling that the classical repertoire offered by casinos. Derived from the French expression "roulette", which translates as "tiny wheel" or "small wheel". Some studies on the subject, its use as a game of chance is at the height of the Middle Ages. There is a library which states that the game is directly inspired by the "wheel of fortune", a topic that crosses ancient history in different civilizations.

Historians say it was Blaise Pascal who made the first wheel of thirty-six numbers (not including zero). The choice of number thirty-six, in principle, a meaning related to magic and the esoteric use of another key number: the six hundred sixty-six.

It was not until the late nineteenth century in the Blanc brothers made a fundamental change in the wheel when you add the number zero (0). This improved roulette Casino Monte Carlo arrived in entering, thus, in the current history as roulette is found in all casinos. According to mathematical calculations, this wheel has a proportional distribution of prizes of 1 / 37. This ratio gives the house (casino) a profit margin of 2.7%.

Importantly, subsequent to the universal spread of the wheel described above, in certain Anglo-Saxon countries joined the double zero (00) to the wheel so that substantially altered the eventual gain of the casino. Thus, the benefit to the house to be doubled from a 2 / 38 resulting in a 5.26%.

The elements of a roulette wheel are basically three. The cylinder or wheel, itself, determines the order in which numbers are arranged, the mat or cloth and ball. The latter is a spherical piece of ivory or white tone that measures about an inch in diameter. There were times when the ball was composed of ivory, but today the material used for fabric is Teflon.

As in any game of chance, there are several systems that increase the odds of winning at roulette. The technique, sustained practice and, of course, luck, are the main factors.
